The Difference Between Science and Sales
Science tells you what we know and builds on this to further define what we know. You don't have to understand something for it to be true, but you have to trust the expertise and experience of the people who research it. Science will try to convince you with logic and facts.
Sales tells you that they have what you need, and it is so important you need to adopt it or purchase it. If it is an idea then it will be a 'secret'. If it is a product then it will have no actual evidence that it will work for you. Sales will encourage you to see for yourself. It will try to convince you by engaging your emotions.
People who adopt science will adapt their views based on new information. They will not change their view, rather they will adopt the latest evidence. This is not flip flopping, this is common sense.
People who purchase a product or are sold an idea will be reluctant to change because their adoption was based on emotion and they fear they will look bad if they change.
Like most things in life though, it is not binary. It is more related to trust. Do you trust people who dedicate their life to finding the truth, or people who are trying to make a profit?
